BEST PRACTICE WITH ABI HONDURAS

El Merendón is an ABI Honduras water resource protection program that has been validated by IGNOTEC since 2016

At the last meeting point of the year, Milene and Fernando, from the ABI Honduras team, presented the Water Replenish Good Practice with their El Merendón program.

In Honduras, they have been working to protect water resources in the El Merendón reserve area since 2010, but it was only in 2016 that they managed to obtain accreditation as a water-neutral operation, validated by IGNOTEC and the annual audits carried out by Coca-Cola.

At the moment, they are working on environmental conservation and supply, which is the specific issue that Coca-Cola has promoted, as well as other environmental education initiatives, such as a production chain for the communities living in the area.

Milene explained that the team is very pleased to be able to contribute to the conservation of this area and, above all, to be able to monitor it together with the authorities to find out how the health of the area is and, therefore, also to know the level of the water that reaches us through our wells, which is how the operation is supplied.

In addition, over the years, they have made different alliances with public bodies and NGOs to protect the forest area from fires, instructing firefighters and the local community, detecting the main risk areas.
